Burdett-Coutts & Townshend Foundation CE Primary School
St Stephen's and Burdett-Coutts & Townshend Foundation CE Primary School share a common founder in Angela Burdett-Coutts, who built both school and church in memory of her father. Each institution had a place of importance in the Baroness’ vision of the realistic preparation of young people to meet the challenge of the adult world.
There has always been a close connection between the school and the church and this strong and integral link continues to this day.
Members of the clergy and the Parochial Church Council are actively involved with the school; with representatives from the Deanery, the PCC and the Vicar of St Stephen’s sitting on the Governing Body.
Pupils and staff also regularly come together for collective worship on Wednesdays while other whole school events such as the Christmas Nativity plays are frequently held in church.
